I promise to get back into the kitchen this week to post some new recipes and pictures. My husband was off from both school and work this past week, and I kind of used it as an excuse to take a break from cooking. But I’m so excited about this new cookbook that my wonderful friends and downstairs neighbors, Neil and Erin, gave me for my birthday! The Flavor Bible, by Karen Page and Andrew Dornenburg, is an extensive guide to ingredients and to pairings that best suit their flavors. For example, if you’re unfamiliar with, say, figs, the book tells you when they’re in season, their taste, their function in dishes, techniques for cooking with them, and what ingredients they go well with. It also looks at specific types of cuisine, such as Indian and Chinese, and the ingredients typically found in each. I haven’t gotten that far into it, but the book has definitely inspired me to get back into the kitchen and to try some new flavor combinations.
